This is an oversize grey cotton chambray shirt from the earliest Y's for Men collections, Yohji's first line for men. It is in excellent used condition, with all buttons intact, including the original extra button on the care tag. It can be dated by the label style and it is most likely from sometime between 1979 and the 1980s. It showcases many of the exceptional tailoring methods that characterize the best of Yohji's work and is an ideal piece for collectors of archival work by the designer. Y's for Men was Yohji Yamamoto's first and original menswear line which ran from 1979 to 2009. He created it based on the idea of clothing for men that would complement his Y's line for women thereby "enabling a man to look his best when standing next to her." The Y's for Men line has always been inspired by Yohji's personal wardrobe. In 2023 the Y's for Men line returned after a 13 year break, and is now a current line again with new collections.
